Nature weaving

We love nature crafts, it encaurage kids to explore textures and nature.

For this project you will need:

  • Sticks

  • Twine

  • Scissors

Step by step:

  1. First step is to collect sticks for your loom. The lenght will depend on the size and the shape of the loom you plan to make. Try to experiment with different shapes, you can make a triangle, or square or any shapes that you like.

  2. To make rectangle frame you will need four sticks. Make frame by attaching two sticks together. Wrap the twine around the sticks to secure it. Repeat the process until it form a rectangle.

  3. Tie a twine around one of the corners and begin wrapping it around the loom. Wrap the twine around the stick twice to prevent it from sliding on the sticks.


The Weaving

  1. Go on nature walk and start collecting items to weave. From grass, flowers, leaves, anything that you can find for this project.

  2. Begin weaving your findings over and under the yarn, from one side to another until it full.

  • By weaving in and out it helps young children builds fine motor skills and improve hand-eye coordination.

  • Children learn pattern and sequencing.

  • Problem solving skills.
